Women Build to auction little house at trivia night event
Children’s playhouse among items on auction to raise money for Habitat for Humanity at annual pasta dinner and trivia contest event
Shoppers at the ReStore in Warrenton might have noticed some special activity in the back of the store lately. Each week, little by little, volunteers for Women Build, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer group, have raised up a tiny house, sized perfectly for children, adorned with hand painted frescos by local artist Cody Lesser, all for a good cause.
This adorable one-of-a-kind play cottage, now completed, will soon be up for auction, at Women Build’s 15th Annual Trivia Night fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity on March 23, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, at 6194 Dumfries Road in Warrenton.
Women Build organizers will auction off the playhouse in a live auction at the family friendly event, which will feature both a live and silent auction, in addition to trivia games with prizes. Community businesses have joined in the effort by donating items for the auction, including one carpenter who happened to see the Women Build volunteers constructing the little house at ReStore and offered to donate a piece of handmade furniture to the cause. Other businesses have gotten involved as sponsors, contributing $50 to $500 to lend their name and in-kind services to the event.
Tickets are $10 for the silent and live auction, including a pasta dinner by Northside 29 Restaurant, served at 6 pm; and $10 per person for the trivia games, beginning at 7 pm, consisting of 10 rounds of eight questions, with teams of up to eight players allowed.
The event will raise funds for essential home repairs for families in need in Fauquier County.
“All that we raise will go toward critical needs, such as for families who may need help repairing a furnace,” says Kelp Armstrong, who chairs the local Women Build organization.
According to Armstrong, hundreds in Fauquier County were helped in 2017 through the efforts of Women Build, which works to recruit, empower and train women to build simple, decent and affordable homes.
“Women Build pulls together volunteers and donors in a big way to make a profound difference in people’s lives,” said Armstrong.
